Special Education Services

In Western Dubuque Schools, we are committed to empowering all students to achieve their highest potential. We provide access to the core curriculum for all students and offer individualized services tailored to meet the specific needs of students eligible for special education services.

A continuum of services ensures that students receive education in the least restrictive environment, alongside their same-grade peers, to the fullest extent appropriate. We continually monitor student progress to ensure that instruction is effective, with families playing an integral role in their student's education.

Our special education philosophy guides our practices:

  • Accommodations for Access: We believe all educators are responsible for making accommodations to enable all students to access the curriculum.

  • Student-Centered Approach: Students are active participants in their learning, and their needs drive our educational decisions.

  • Collaborative Partnership: Success is fostered through ongoing collaboration and communication among educators, families, and students.

  • Specialized Instruction: Instruction is tailored to each student’s needs, challenging, research-based, and grounded in the belief that all students can learn.

  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Assessment informs instruction, allowing for data-driven decisions to support student growth.
